Jaguar C-X16 WON’T be the Jaguar XE

Wed, 07 Mar 2012

Jaguar C-X16 won't be the Jaguar XE It’s been revealed that the new smaller sport car from Jaguar – the C-X16 Concept – won’t be called the Jaguar XE. The Jaguar C-X16 Concept – a new smaller sports car based on the next generation XK platform – was revealed at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and although we were a little underwhelmed with the design – there is nothing wrong with it, it just didn’t seem to move Jaguar’s design language on – we loved what was on offer. What we did think – in common with just about everyone else – is that Jaguar would make their new Sports car the Jaguar XE, evoking memories of the original E-Type in the process and fitting in with the current Jaguar nomenclature quite well.

Germany plans to charge foreigners to drive on the Autobahn

Tue, 10 Dec 2013

Germany plans to charge foreigners to drive on the Autobahn It seems Germany is planning to charge to use the Autobahn network – just as France does – but it plans to levy the charge just on foreign visitors. The plan is part of a deal by Angela Merkel’s Social Democrat party to form a new coalition and would see all non-German drivers paying a fixed toll to use the Autobahns. But the plan is coming under fire from neighbouring countries (Germany has borders with nine other countries) and even from its own version of the AA – the ADAC – who say the revenue likely to be raised – around £220 million – will do little to address the costs.

BMW: Carbon fiber goes high volume in 2013

Tue, 12 Jul 2011

BMW AG plans to begin high-volume production of carbon fiber parts in two years, making it a strong contender to be the first automaker to move beyond limited-edition use of the exotic material. But Daimler AG, which has taken steps aimed at making carbon fiber parts in 2012, is among the automakers racing toward the same goal. In 2013, BMW will start building the i3 electric car, a vehicle that features a passenger cell--the protective shell around the passenger compartment that ensures the integrity of the vehicle in a crash--made of plastic reinforced with carbon fiber.
